  1. The image is very meaningful of the feeling all we have when we get disconnected or Inthernet of..
On one hand it is reasonable, given that we can find almost anything in the Inthernet (music, films, shops, money, friends….). But on the other hand what we feel when we cannot access the Inthernet is more unnerving and bewildering that it should be. It is somehow psycological and inexplicable. It seems to us as that in that time the most important events you were expecting are about to happen, what makes you really anxious. When finally you access the Inthernet you realise nothing importat have taken place and you get extremely relaxed.
We all should reflex about this moment and this feeling to try to be logic and rational and to be able to control our irational feelings about being on line. Mainly because we are giving all the emphasis to the Internet realationships and we are destroying physical ones.

  3. This picture shows in a humorous way an example of Internet addiction. We are so hooked on email, social networks and blogs that a single "offline" weekend can increase our anxiety levels and makes us run to our computers and check all our favourite sites.

Although the picture reflects this reality in a funny way, Internet addiction disorder is a growing problem that can have serious negative effects in your life. We are living in an information society, where information is pervasive and one the most important resources. We need to know what has happened to who, and to catch up with the updates of our friends' profiles, even if they are constantly uploading new pictures of what they have eaten. When this online world starts replacing your real life, you can be suffering from Internet addiction. Web junkies have a constant psychological necessity of checking webpages using a computer or a mobile phone, what can interfere with their everyday life. This problem is specially common among teenagers, and it can harm their social interaction skills. Given that they usually avoid physical activity, this problem can also result in obesity.

In my opinion, the key to prevent this kind of addiction is a strict education about the use of the Internet and technology. Parents have to set boundaries and control the number of hours their children spend in front of a computer. Besides, I do not think parents should let their children have a mobile phone with Internet connection. Even if your child is stubborn as a mule and he or she insists on having it, you should stick to your guns.

  4. Have you ever thought what would happen if the Internet doesn't be nowadays? Yes, I have. In the few last decades, not only have we been getting used to doing "everything" on the Internet, but we are also completely hooked on it.
The computer, which is meant to be a working tool, might well have become part of our life. Additionally, Technology has grown and has even taken over computers because of mobile phones, tablets and so on. What I can't bear is meeting people who are constantly texting each other. It's a pity this habit is becoming pretty much run of the mill.
However, as I stated in the beginning, thinking of a world without Internet might well seem to be impossible. In the good old days, we used to chat up face to face, play happily outside, do homework with other resources - such as encyclopedia, books, asking elderly people and so on. New generations don't know about this methods and social skills.
On the other hand, we gain other skills such as production speed, effectiveness and accuracy.
Nevertheless, apart from those pros and cons of the Internet, we must avoid becoming a kind of "couch potato" with its usage and, what's worse, not hooking on it. As this picture represents, there is an absolutely dreadful man without any form whatsoever who might have felt completely depressed because not having been surfing on the net during a whole weekend.
If I were you, I wouldn't fall prey to the Internet and I'd live real life!

  6. The internet can provide access to some valuable tools, interesting stories, exciting games and informative content, but when used in excess, the internet has the ability to interfere with your work, live, relationships, and daily routines.

The condition known as "Internet Addiction Disorder" is growing so rapidly among adolescents and young adults that it could soon be formally recognised as a mental health disorder. Of course, recent studies of collage students begin to clarify the relationship between Internet compulsion, depression and other serious problems.

Therefore, although, Internet can be a useful tool, personally speaking, we must be aware of these problems and do not live our life in a digital way!

  7. Let me imagine two opposite situations with this picture and its comment.
On the one hand,it could be sarcasm.
Early morning on Monday. A man arrives at his office after a fantastic weekend and suddenly he faces up to cruel and awful reality. The computer. This tedious machine which he is going to spend the next eight hours. So, giving himself up,he hugs his computer and says: "I´m so happy to see you. I didn´t..."
On the other hand, the picture could represent a different perspective, showing us a man who gets hooked up on using internet.
So, after a long ending weekend without internet at home because an electrical problem in all his suburb, this cyberaddicted man arrives at his working place mad about giving a hug to his computer, and starting to check his mails, to look for information about some products he is interested on, to read the news, to watch videos on You Tube and so on.
The situation above is quite frequent.
According to some studies, four out ten workers use their computers at work for personal issues.
Enterprises spend millions in different softwares getting rid of staff connecting to the net in order to acquire a higher productivity.
On the contrary, other studies show how workers using as maximum a 20 % of their working time for that sort of concerns increase the efficiency at work, because it allows the mind to rest and, consequently, there is a greater concentration throughout the day.
To sum up and in my opinion, this subject may be compared with a good wine. Drunk in moderation is healthy. In this case, it is profitable.

  8. In my opinion, society has too much dependence on Internet in particular, and on electric equipments in general. And the biggest problem is that it does not depend on the age of the person. I can understand that a teenager wants to own a mobile phone with internet connection, so he needs to communicate to his friends whatever he does along the day (it is a very teenager characteristic).
But what I do not understand is how parents give their children mobile phones or tablets in order to entertain them, instead of encouraging those children to play with instructive games or practise outdoor activities.
Nowadays, the level of dependence on Internet is so high that even adults are not capable of being one hour without using it (even when they are having a coffee with their friends).
Personally, I think people should turn their electric equipments off for two or three hours every day, and they should start to enjoy all the wonderful things they are surrounded by.

  10. The hidden message which appears constantly in science fiction films: "machines will run our lives" can't be more meaningful for this picture. The catchy drawing of a man hugging his PC screen is not far away of the real situation. In fact, an increasing number of people consider that they can't live appart from their gadgets: PC, laptops. ipods, tablets, mobile phones and so on. Call them freaks but what is true is that some problems of adittion could be behind that. Therefore, it is essential to control its use and try to reduce its consumption if possible. Not only are there other sources of information but also a wide variety of ways of entertainment appart internet and electronic gadgets.
Frequently, I ask myself how neccesary is refreshing the inbox of my personal mail, check facebook wall, retweet a new, or check the forecast every moment? I am pretty sure we could survive as we did before. But it seems to me that we are under a technology era and we can't stand life without our daily dosis of internet.

  11. Nowadays, the Internet is one of the most powerful, useful and convenient tools that people can employ in their daily duties and spare time. It gives us an instantaneous access to incredible vast quantities of information, which include diverse web pages where it can be bought the most eccentric devices that you can ever imagine, personal blogs in which people write about their most intimate, secret and private thoughts or desires, and social networks that allow us to interact with other people as if they were settled in the next door although they are, in fact, living in the furthest countries on Earth, among others.

For that reason, many people are currently getting hooked on the Internet, and they can even experiment anxious and tense feelings when they are unable to surf the Net for a certain period of time. Furthermore, many psychologists are nowadays pointing out that the growing isolation and distance among human beings are quite clear consequences of misusing new technologies, so they are warning us against the hidden dangers of abusing them and thus to become an IT addict.

From my point of view, the advantages in using the Internet, both for work and pleasure, are more meaningful than its possible disadvantages, and what must be done is to appropriately instruct society in a moderate, reasonable and suitable use of new technologies. In the end, the Internet has to be seen just as a simple knife, that is, as a handy tool that can make our life easier or as a concealed weapon whose wrong use can wreak havoc upon the population.

  12. Gone are the days when we used to meet our friends in a pub in order to have some drinks and talk into each other directly, or when we used to spend our time together doing a leisure activity, such as a sport or a game while we were looking, right straight, at our comrades.
Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, Skype, Whatsapp, Candy-crush, so on and so forth. Nowadays, almost every daily activity that we are involved in is related to a technological gadget or application.
Sometimes I miss a more social and humane relationship with my relatives, colleagues or friends, but the true is, that I have gotten back in touch with many people from my youth and besides, almost everyday I “talk” to my cousins, aunts and uncles; everything thanks to Whatsapp or Facebook and in this sense, I have thrown in the towel and converted myself into a fan of ICT.
On the other hand, what concerns me more is young people, because not only are they grown up surrounded by these kinds of devices (or in my father´s words: evil apparatus), but they have not enjoyed enough the experience of holding a face-to-face absorbing conversation with other people; instead of this, most of them usually chat on their computers, stay at home playing video games with other schoolmates who also are in their houses, or even worse, they are together at the very same place deeping in coversation by Whatsapp.
In a nutshell, we do not need to take this advanced technology from one extreme to the other, making a good use of it, considering that it has come to stay between us.

  13. This image shows how important the Internet is today. We are on line 24/7 and when we don't have any mobile phone or computer close to us we are lost. We are hooked on social networks and we like to feel that we are connected. If you think how many times a day you check your mobile phone you will realize that what I said it's true. I remember my son touching the TV screen, when he was two years old, trying to link to a website or moving an image that he watched. We live in a digital world.

Nowdays, if you don't know anything about the Internet your life will be harder. It's very important to use the world wide web, because you can manage a lot of tasks from your computer or mobile phone. You can do whatever you want, and you only need a computer. But, we have to look for a balance, because otherwise we will be living another life, not real. We are living in an online society but a lot of people are alone watching a small screen.

  14. Sadly, the picture shows a man absolutely delighted coming back to his job because he has been all the weekend without the internet. I mean, the picture represents the internet addiction.
As far as I am concerned, the internet is a powerful tool that connects millions of people all around the world. Also, today many people do their banking or their shopping on line which is quite fruitful.
Quid pro quo, more and more people think that the internet increases the isolation of its users. After work people often log on the internet as soon as they get home. They chat on line, check their emails, download music or film instead of having real conversation with their families face to face. Also, the internet can even became harmful if users became addicted and only live virtual lives, especially kinds. This is the root of the problem.
Considering children, the younger they use the electronic devices, the more hooked they could became. To avoid this problem, not only do parents teach how to use the internet but also they must control the time their children spend using it.
From my point of view, parental involvement and control are two musts.

  15. I totally agree with my mates. They have perfectly described most of advantages and disadvantages that Internet has brought into our lives. For that reason, I won’t insist on the same ideas.
This debate about Internet brings to my mind the Industrial Revolution phenomenon in XIX century. A lot of people saw Steam engine invention and production chain development as a breakthrough in our society. Meanwhile, many others considered those changes thoroughly detrimental and which caused massive layoffs.
As I see it, nowadays, we are living a pretty similar situation. Both of them are times of great changes in human life style. Whether we like it or not, it’s happening; therefore, it’s our responsibility comes face to face with Internet phenomenon and make the best of all this technology.

  16. This is a really interesting picture because it shows us that we are so used to using the internet connection and new gadgets, such as mobile phone, iPad and tablet, that if they don’t work or the Internet connection goes down, we feel really desperate and even hopeless. This brings the debate whether we should rely on new technology as much as we do or not.

The way I see it, technology is made for us to use, but we should have common sense in order not to become addicted to them. I believe that most people nowadays are technophile because of the ease of information and user-friendly system. The thing is that we are so used to using new electronic devices that we are not longer able to accomplish simple tasks, such as travelling without a GPS, remembering telephone numbers or even parking our car without a special device allocated in the bumper.

Another point is that we are so hooked on the Internet that we don’t even stop checking our Emails while we are on holidays and therefore we don’t make the most of our free time out of work.

I do think that the Internet is one of the greatest things in modern life, because it allows you to communicate and to access to the information in the easiest and quickest way ever. However, we have to steer clear of wasting our lives in front of a screen just for fun.

  17. Addiction, this would be the term to express what this image prompt. What is happening? How can we feel so hooked on ICT? Firstly we should analyse why silicon have transformed the way we work, how we enjoy our free time or our social relationships. Internet has made our job easier as a full toolbox although it requires us to update to an incessant changing environment. It has become a turnabout in the way we work. And, at the same time, it have increased the number of opportunities for job seekers and entrepreneurs.

Leisure has also been changed by the Internet. More than gaming, Internet users are now playing roles as it they actually live it. Video games that were played a decade ago from PC’s, have been replaced by online role playing that involve other pairs from anywhere on the planet. A step further, entertainment has been brought to our pockets so you just have to take your smartphone and run any app for fun.

At this point, we must mention Social Relationships. Communication is the field where Internet has influenced more. Not only for supplying a wider variety of means and tools but for opening frontieres that were closed to the average citizen such as videoconferencing, that today could be established barely for free. On the other hand, is easy to come across couples sitting in a coffee shop that are operating their devices instead of having a real conversation with each other. Youth is getting used to go out, to meet their peers and chat with other from the other side of the planet, thousands of kilometres away. What's going on? What in the coming years?

  18. Information society is something we live in since long. It is featured by the use of the so-called “information and communication technologies” (also known by its acronym: ICT), the most important of which is the Internet. The pic we C1 English students are writing about shows how hooked we are to it nowadays. Perhaps, what it is exposed there is not that exaggerated. It would be no wonder seeing a guy happy due to having the chance to enjoy an Internet connection, after a lacking period (let us say the weekend).
First of all, I think we have to think of the expression “new technologies”, by which technology services are called, which would already be not the most appropiate on account of the fact that those ones are not that new, seeing that we have been using computers since the beginning of the eighties and the Internet since the end of the nineties.
What is the reason why people get so dependent on the internet? The question might have several answers: on the one hand, the huge amount of information we can access. In the olden days, information was much more inaccessible, expensive and less gathered; on the other hand, the net let us communicate easily, so that we can meet a lot of people only by clicking keys. There is no doubt that it is extraordinarily useful but there are several risks related to the use of the Internet we have to take into account, considering that we are more exposed to net users, what implies lack of privacy and vulnerability when using personal information.
